Researchers from the various dental colleges have discovered that the microbes that cause stomach ulcers and gastric cancer were also found in the mouth of some people who suffer from bad breath and these people do not have stomach ulcers or stomach cancer.

Nearly 90 percent of people in developing countries and 20 to 80 percent of people in developed countries can get stomach ulcers and gastric cancer due to infection caused by bacteria known as Helicobacter pylori. Now research conducted and indicates that the human mouth, which is home to over 600 different species of bacteria, could be home to Helicobacter pylori and found the presence of germs especially in people who suffer from bad breath that is also known as halitosis.

Bad breath is a common condition that many people suffer from. This is mainly due to gum disease, tongue debris, and bad oral hygiene that allow bacteria to get stuck. The bacteria produce malodorous compounds such as hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, and dimethyl sulfide. Usually, when doctors try to find the cause of bad breath then the presence of these compounds was measured. 

Now scientists have found that Helicobacter pylori can also live in the mouth. They are doing research to see if the bacteria can cause bad breath and tested 326 patients, who have the bacteria present in the mouth. They found that 251 patients suffered from bad breath while 75 did not, and none of the patients had gastric disease or illness.
